Katrina Penman
Katrina Penman is a flute player and teacher. Having received the Bachelor of Music with Honours degree from the Royal College of Music, London in 2005, she took postgraduate courses at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan. As an orchestral flutist, she has performed in Teatro alla Scala, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Tchaikovsky hall in Moscow, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo and many more. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Symphonica d'Italia orchestra (previously known as the Symphonica Toscanini) directed by Lorin Maazel. She has also given solo recitals in the UK, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, most recently in London's St Martin in the Fields.
Katrina has been teaching the flute for eleven years, in schools, music centres and youth bands in London and Buckinghamshire (UK), in Milan and, currently, in Valladolid, Spain. Her teaching methods draw on her experience of working with the UK's Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabi, the Willem's method, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Education Project and music pedagogy classes at the Royal College of Music. As a student, she also carried out work experience at Europe's leading flute specialist, Topwind, in London.
